Website & messages

Your website

Building your website: themes, colours, sections, editing on the page, and publishing.

1. Your website is built from your treatments, team and details.

Building it

  1. 1Admin → Website & messages → Website shows whether your website is live and lets you Publish. Tap Edit on page: your website opens full size with the options beside it (on a phone, tap Options). Or tap one of the shortcuts under Go straight to (Style, Header and menu, Home page sections, Pages, News posts, Google listing) to open the editor at that part.
  2. 2Design: theme (Clean, Bold, Soft or Dark), brand colour, font, page width and your logo (the browser tab icon is in Admin → Business → Profile).
  3. 3Home page: drag sections into order (on a phone, use the up and down arrows), hide or show them, and Add a section. The list shows Sections at the top (services and prices, highlight, reviews, gallery and latest posts, which you can add as often as you like, plus any of the home page’s own sections you’ve removed) and Blocks underneath. Sections and blocks include: hero, services and prices, highlight, team, gallery, reviews, questions, latest posts, contact form, about and find us, and blocks like text, photo and text, video, call to action, Instagram, Search bar (a search box that finds your services, pages and news posts as visitors type, with prices and Book links) and Business information (your address, phone, email, opening hours and map from Business profile; choose which to show). Blocks can go on any page.
  4. 4Preview on desktop or mobile, then Publish website. Undo and redo as you go, or Revert to go back to what’s live.

Pictures and videos you replace

When you replace or remove a picture or video (on your website, a treatment or a team member), or delete a treatment or team member, the old file is deleted from storage automatically, usually within a minute or two of saving. Files added in the last half hour are left a little longer, in case they’re still being saved on another device. The same picture used in two places stays until neither uses it.

Header photos and slideshow

The header (hero) has a Style: Classic, Centred, Card or Split. Add up to 3 Header photos and they play as a slideshow: choose Seconds per photo (4, 6, 8, 10 or 15) and Slow zoom (each photo drifts gently closer). Text for each slide gives each photo its own headline and intro. Or add a Background video (optional) instead.

Gallery

Add photos (you can choose several at once). Style: Grid or Mosaic. Under Photo titles and descriptions, click a photo to give it a title, a description or a link, choose Show them On hover, On photo, In a card or No, and switch Link icon on linked photos on or off. Under Layout choose the columns and how many to Show at first (the rest appear with Load more). Latest posts sections show as Cards or a List.

Instagram

Add an Instagram block, then tap Connect Instagram and sign in on Instagram. It needs an Instagram professional account (Business or Creator, free to switch in the Instagram app). Once connected it says Connected as @yourname, with Disconnect. Show posts in a Grid or Carousel, and choose Posts to show: 4, 8 or 12.

Text size and colours

Each section has a text Size (Small, Standard or Large), a Heading colour and a Text colour (Standard, or Choose a colour).

Back to top button

Under Style, Back to top button: switch on Show a back to top button and choose how it looks: Circle, Outline, With “Top” or Square.

Spacing between sections

Every section and block has Spacing in its settings: the space Above and Below it, None, Small, Medium or Large. Sections and blocks you add start on Small, so pages sit close together; ones added before this setting keep their usual space until you choose a size. Want a bigger gap in one place? Add a Spacer block.

Custom layout: build your own

  1. 1Add a section → Custom layout, at the top of the list. It starts with text beside a photo.
  2. 2Give it a heading and some text above the columns if you like (both optional), and a background: Plain, Light, Brand, Colour or Photo.
  3. 3Choose 2, 3 or 4 columns, then a ready-made width (half and half, a third and two thirds…) or drag the handles between the columns to size them yourself.
  4. 4Add to each column (up to 6 in each): sections that can be added more than once (services and prices, highlight, reviews, gallery, latest posts) and any block except a hero banner or another Custom layout. To move them, drag a block on the page up, down or into another column (a blue line shows where it’ll go). On a computer you can drag the block itself; on a phone or tablet, tap it, then drag its Drag handle. Or use the arrows beside the handle: left, up, down and right (handy on a phone). You can also drag them in the column list in the panel. Choose whether the columns line up at the top or in the middle.
  5. 5On a computer you can also drag a section or block straight from the Add a section list onto the page, into any column of a Custom layout (a green line shows where it’ll go). It opens ready to edit.
  6. 6Click a block on the page, or in the column list, to edit it. Back takes you to the layout. A block with a background (like a call to action) shows as a card.
  7. 7On phones the columns stack, one under another.

Header, menu and banner

Choose your booking button and its text, whether to show the gift card basket (when you sell gift cards: see Gift cards), add an announcement banner across the top, and arrange the menu links in the header or footer, including links of your own. Tap the pencil beside a page or section to give its link a shorter name, for example Privacy instead of Privacy Policy, or Terms instead of Terms and Conditions: the page keeps its own title, and clearing the name puts the page’s name back. Manage my data, where clients look after their own information (see Data & compliance), starts in the footer: show it in the header, the footer, both or neither, like any other link.

Editing on the page

Everything is changed in Edit on page: click any heading or paragraph to type over it, click a section for its photos, layout and other options, or tap Add a section here between sections. You can also visit your website while logged in and choose Edit website. Changes are a draft until you tap Publish.

Filled in for you

Your treatments, prices, offers and team come from the rest of Pulosa, so they’re always up to date. Your address, phone, email and opening hours come from Admin → Business → Profile (opening hours from your booking hours), so change them there. Changes to team profiles update your website automatically.

Google Analytics and Search Console

  1. 1Admin → Website & messages → Website settings → Google Analytics and Search Console. How to set it up, and What’s tracked, and privacy, open underneath for the details.
  2. 2Google Analytics: in Google Analytics, make a property for your website, then Admin → Data streams → your website, and copy the Measurement ID (it starts with G-), or paste Google’s whole tag snippet and the ID is picked out of it. Paste it in and tap Save Google settings. It works straight away; you don’t need to publish. Tag Manager IDs (GTM-…) can’t be used.
  3. 3Search Console (to show Google your address is yours, see what people search for and send your sitemap, which is your address followed by /sitemap.xml): in Search Console, add a URL prefix property for your website’s address, choose HTML tag, copy the tag, paste it into Search Console verification code and tap Save Google settings. Wait a minute, then press Verify in Search Console.
  4. 4Visits are only counted on your website’s pages: never consent forms, and nothing typed into a form is sent to Google. Your cookie banner tells visitors, and they can switch visitor statistics off in Cookie settings (Reject non-essential switches it off too).
  5. 5Add a line about Google Analytics to the Cookies section of your privacy policy page. New privacy pages already mention it.
  6. 6Sitemap: your website has a sitemap, a list of all its pages that helps Google find them, made for you and kept up to date as you add pages and news. Tap Sitemap for Google to open it: its address, with a Copy button, is there: yourname.pulosa.com/sitemap.xml, or on your own domain once it’s connected (for example yourdomain.co.uk/sitemap.xml). Connected your own domain after setting up Search Console? Add your domain as a new property in Search Console and submit its sitemap too. Once Search Console has verified your website, open Sitemaps in Search Console, type sitemap.xml and tap Submit. You only do this once.

Maintenance mode

Making big changes? Admin → Website & messages → Website settings → Maintenance mode. It saves straight away, no need to publish. Visitors see a “We’ll be back soon” page with your message, when you expect to be back (change both under The “back soon” page wording), and your phone number and email, and can’t book online. Contact form (on to start with) puts your contact form beside the message, so visitors can still send you a message: it arrives in Messages. You and your team still see the full website, with a note at the top, and can keep editing. Turn it off and your website is back straight away.

Sample content

A new website starts with a sample headline and About text: the editor marks those sections Sample text to replace until you change them. New reviews, questions and gallery sections start with sample content so you can see how they look. Samples only show in Edit on page, never on your live website, and a section with nothing but samples is marked “Sample reviews · not live” (or answers, photos) in the list. Sample reviews never go live: publishing made-up reviews is against UK consumer law, so add your clients’ real reviews. For questions, change the answers or press Use these answers if they’re right for you. After you publish, Pulosa tells you which sections aren’t showing yet.

In the app

Good to know

  • Services, highlights, reviews, galleries and news can be added as many times as you like (up to 12 blocks a page), on any page: Add a section, then pick one from Sections.
  • Edit on page fills the whole screen: your website on the left and the options on the right, each scrolling on its own. Close goes back to Admin → Website & messages → Website.
  • Lots of services? Open a Services and prices section and switch on Search box (any style: Cards, Price list or Categories). Visitors type to find a service by name, description, category or option, across every category, and it’s also above the list when clients book online.
  • Our team: choose Cards (round photos) or Portraits (tall photos), and 2, 3, 4 or 6 people per row. Show them in rows, with an optional Load more button so only the first few show at first, or as a carousel that visitors swipe or that scrolls by itself.
  • Reviews: tick Scroll through them automatically to make the cards a carousel that moves along by itself, or have Spotlight show the next review every few seconds. It pauses when a visitor points at it or touches it. On phones, visitors swipe through the cards, with dots showing which one they’re on. Star colour lets you pick any colour for the stars (your brand colour if you don’t).
  • Browser tab icon: Admin → Business → Profile, under your logo. It’s also the icon people see when they bookmark your website or add it to their phone’s home screen (no icon uploaded: your logo, or your first initial on your brand colour). Upload icon (a square image works best), Use my logo, or Use default. It’s saved straight away, no need to publish. No icon uploaded? Your website and app use one made from your logo, or your initial on your brand colour if there’s no logo. A new icon goes live when you publish.
  • Reviews must be your clients’ real words, added with their permission. You can copy good reviews from Google or Facebook and link each name to where the review first appeared (it can open in a new tab).
